About the Journal
01What is The Demiurge?
The Demiurge is a journal of occult and esoteric knowledge, philosophy, and art. Our goal is to create a stage for new and established voices to share their studies, insights, and creations, connecting authors and artists with interested readers in Europe and beyond. Though we are based in Berlin, Germany, we publish in English to make our content accessible to as many people as possible.
A journal, as opposed to a magazine, focuses less on popular topics for the general public and more on specialised, tailored content for an interested audience.
02What themes does The Demiurge accept?
Each issue will explore several kinds of content rather than focus on a single area in the vast ocean of occultism. All of the following are welcome, but do not limit yourself to this list: any form of spiritual knowledge will be carefully considered.

- Traditional Witchcraft & Wicca
- Hellenism
- Umbanda, Candomblé, Santeria
- Pagan traditions

- Etc., etc., etc.
03Is AI accepted?
ABSOLUTELY NOT. If there is any trace of AI in a submission, it will be immediately discarded—no questions asked. Of course, it is not always immediately clear whether AI was used, but we will make every effort to avoid it. The aim of this periodical is to provide human spirituality acquired through genuine connection with the Divine and research. AI has no soul and therefore cannot experience the higher planes as humans do. It can be useful for mundane tasks, but we believe it should be kept away from spiritual work and the arts. Ask AI to review your work for spelling mistakes, but please write it yourself.
04In what format will The Demiurge be published?
The goal is to offer both digital editions (in ebook form) and physical editions (printed on demand). Whether that will be possible depends only on the alignment of the stars.
05What is the schedule for each issue?
The schedule is not set in stone. Initially, we aim to publish two or three issues a year. If that proves to be too much or too little, we will adjust accordingly.
06How much will The Demiurge cost?
Pricing is not set in stone, but our aim is to keep it as affordable as possible so that more people can access it.

About the Submissions
08What are the copyright terms?
Because The Demiurge currently cannot pay its authors, we do not claim first-publication rights in your work. This means:
- You retain full ownership of your work.
- You can publish it elsewhere, before or after appearing in The Demiurge.
- We do not claim first-publication rights or any form of exclusivity.

09What formats are accepted?
The Demiurge is looking for:
Writing (maximum 4,000 words):
- Essays
- Articles
- Rituals
- Meditations
- Short stories
- Poetry
- Hymns and adorations
Artwork:
- Photography
- Digital art
- Traditional art
10How are submissions selected?
For a submission to be accepted, it must:
- Align with the general theme of the journal.
- Not promote prejudice based on gender, sexuality, or personal choice, nor theories of racial or ethnic superiority.
- Be an original work created by the person submitting it.
If these basic guidelines are met, we will consider the work on the basis of its content and relevance. Ultimately, we select works that carry The Demiurge's vision and may simply be selected because it fits that vision.
11What are the formatting requirements?
The Demiurge accepts PDF, JPG, and PNG files only. PDFs have no strict formatting requirements, but please use easily readable fonts and include your name, the work title, the date, and the issue for which you are submitting. Documents without this information will not be discarded, but it does make selection easier.
12How long will it take to receive an answer?
We will do our best to read and respond to every enquiry as soon as possible, but this is volunteer work, so please be patient.
13Can I submit more than one work?
Yes, absolutely. However, only one work may appear in each issue, so that we can publish as many different people as possible.
14Can I submit a work that has already been published elsewhere?
Yes. As described in the copyright section, we do not require exclusivity and respect your ownership of the work.
15Can I withdraw my submission?
Yes, you may withdraw your work until two weeks before the publication date. Please contact us at [email protected].
16Do you provide feedback or editing?
We may edit submissions for clarity, grammar, or formatting, but we will never make substantive changes without your approval. As a general rule, we do not provide feedback, though we may do so if you are open to it.
17Will my piece stay online permanently?
Please see the Open Access Policy for more information.
18Is there payment for accepted submissions?
This is a labour of love, and profit is not the goal; as a result, we have no funds at present. Please consider this carefully: if you submit to The Demiurge, you accept that there may be no compensation.
With that in mind, we would absolutely love to pay every author and artist we publish. Depending on sales and the income generated by this endeavour, we will do what we can to make that happen.
